I grew up on a small farm near Hespeler, & finished High School in Guelph. Further education included a B. E. S. from U of Waterloo, which focused on Urban Planning & Resource Management, a (K – 8) Teacher’s Certificate & studies in Marketing. Extensive travel in both Europe and North America certainly broadened my view of the world before I settled down to a career in Business including further studies in numerous industry specific, corporate sponsored courses while I worked in HQ Corporate Communications/Marketing in (4) major industries: Publishing (MH), Retail (TEC), High Tech (Bell) & even a brief stint in Banking! A midlife career change resulted in me becoming a Real Estate agent in 1988.
During my 30+ year career in real estate, starting in the volatile & diverse GTA (20+) I handled significant rentals and sold everything from condo/co-op/co-ownership units – even bought one for myself (before financing was available!) to high-end, detached homes, as well as farms & the odd commercial building, before moving to ‘cottage country’ in Bruce County, where I sold a vacation camp as well as new & older homes in town(s) & country.
Over the years I’ve mastered The art of finding the best property available and settled my diverse clients – from young first-timers to downsizing seniors – into the home of their dreams. Marketing, budget management, and negotiation skills learned in business have served my real estate clients well! I have a long list of happy homeowners… as well as some new/long time friends.
My experience in advertising, promotion and retail display as well as an ongoing interest & study in decor is a real asset when assisting clients to ‘prep’ their homes before putting them on the market for sale/rent. I’ve even been known to get busy in clients’ homes (before ‘staging’ was an industry) helping clean, de-clutter & then supplying props from my personal collection of accessories to make their property as appealing as possible to potential buyers. I like to think I also have the ability to point out hidden potential in many poorly presented properties and to suggest viable alternatives when the ideal cannot be found.
I am an enthusiastic ‘shopper’ with skills learned in industry/business, as well as infinite patience & imagination; to quote my 1st Broker “… as long as it’s not Casa Loma, we can find it!” With the philosophy that – for every house, there is a buyer, & for every buyer there is a home, I will persevere until the match is made. I will then skillfully negotiate the very best deal possible; my research is thorough, I can help in finding reliable financing for the purchase, & my paperwork is clean (all those years in business were a great learning experience), so all my transactions close – painlessly!
